ENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGY
The Hotel D´Angleterre considers environmental responsibility an important element of our business ethics. Together with our owners, employees, suppliers, and guests we wish to develop and market products and services, which affect the environment as little as possible, while ensuring our guests an optimal as well as environmentally friendly stay at our hotel. We believe that responsibility towards the environment and business success are closely linked. As one of the leading service enterprises in the hotel industry, our hotels must influence and be famous for an environmentally responsible behaviour.
Through information, education, and knowledge, we wish to support the thought, that all of us – both as individuals and as businesses – can contribute to a better environment. This thought has been essential to us when developing our environmental profile "The Butterfly Effect - for the Environment".
”The Butterfly Effect – for the Environment”
In the Hotel D’Angleterre’s environmental programme ”The Butterfly Effect – for the Environment” we honour the butterfly effect, which is internationally renowned for stating, that the wings of a butterfly can cause little changes in the atmosphere and thereby ultimately prevent the creation of a tornado. The flapping wing is a representation of the fact, that small changes can cause a series of events which might echo on the other side of the planet. Therefore, we have chosen the butterfly as our logo and symbol of the Hotel D'Angleterre's official environmental programme. A flap of the wings gives our guests and the world a better environment.
The Butterfly Effect was originally created by the late meteorologist Edward N. Lorenz in 1962.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of Hotel D’Angleterre’s programme ”The Butterfly Effect – for the Environment” on the environmental area is for our hotels and restaurants to be run focussing on a long term perspective so that profitability and harmony support a sustainable development. We work to improve the condition for environmental initiatives through a continuous dialogue with our owners, employees, suppliers, and guests, and we participate actively in the environmental programme, Waste Management Partners.
Our general environmental strategy is translated into ten principles:
1. As a minimum to comply with the environmental legislation and authority demands. Introduce our own standards, where there are no authority demands.
2. Employ the precautionary approach.
3. Improve the environmental effort continuously and optimize the consumption of resources.
4. Minimize the environmental impact by optimizing products, processes, and services taking their whole life span into consideration.
5. Cooperate and communicate actively with authorities, suppliers, and employees.
6. Develop and choose products, processes, and services that reduce the environmental impact.
7. Educate and motivate employees to take an active part in the environmental work and responsibility.
8. Integrate environment, working environment and security.
9. Consider environmental and economic interests.
10. Establish environmentally friendly procedures and instructions, as well as measure improvements on the environmental efforts.
