Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock, one of the best known director's in the history of suspense films, visited d'Angleterre in the middle of the 1960's.
The hotel was chosen as backdrop for several scenes in the director's movie "Torn Curtain" from 1966 featuring Julie Andrews and Paul Newman.
A trademark of Hitchcock's movies is that he almost always appears in a small cameo role - and "Torn Curtain" is no exception. Within the first eight minutes of the film, the director himself can be spotted sitting in the upper lobby at d'Angleterre with a baby on his lap.
Aside from the lobby scene the film also features a wide shot of the hotel façade as it looked in the 60's.
