Carats & cocktails

From September 29 to October 29 2023, BALTHAZAR Champagne Bar hosted the exhibition "Carats & Cocktails". Here, the audience could experience 31 cocktail rings from some of Denmark's best goldsmiths and jewelry designers. Each ring was inspired by and color coordinated with one iconic BALTHAZAR cocktail, for example Dry Martini, Gin & Tonic, Margarita, Espresso Martini and Aperol Spritz.

A cocktail ring is brightly colored thanks to beautiful gemstones. Originally, these types of rings were worn during illegal drinking parties held in the middle of the American Prohibition era (1920-1933), where alcohol was banned. When you finally got the opportunity to party freely, your ring should also be seen. Today, the rings are a glamorous hit on the red carpets at film premieres and award ceremonies.

Curator Nina Hald states: "The 31 goldsmiths and jewelry designers have been inspired by 31 iconic drinks, and each presents a unique ring for the exhibition. During Prohibition in the 1920s, the extravagant cocktail ring was invented, and today's artists have been inspired by it. The cocktail rings immortalize the tasty and intoxicating in noble materials, and the rings illustrate a century's iconic drink storyā€¯.
