Rosenholm Castle

Rosenholm Castle

Meet Barons and fly Seaplanes with a visit to Rosenholm Castle

Welcome to this unique visit of Rosenholm Castle, which today is the private home of the noble family Rosenkrantz. On this private visit you will be welcomed by Baron Erik Rosenkrantz who will show you around this very special home and gardens which normally is not open to the public.  After the tour, lunch is served in the great hall.

You would first fly by seaplane to Aarhus (xx minutes) and then drive ½ hour to the castle itself. Such a journey over the island of Zealand and the Kattegat Støre Bælt will add to the excitement of the day.

History

Rosenholm Castle is Denmark's oldest and best-preserved family-owned castles.  The Castle was founded in 1559 by the Danish nobleman Jørgen 'George' Rosenkrantz. His family are among the oldest and most famous in the Danish history. Shakespeare chose to use the name in the play Hamlet. The castle interior was modernised in the 1740s in the baroque style, at which time a large baroque garden was laid out, covering an area of 5 ha., with avenues of lime trees and hedgerows of beech. Rosenholm is fully furnished, with hundreds of items of furniture, paintings and tapestries. The castle is one of the biggest and most beautiful Danish manors from the Renaissance period.
