New General Manager

d'Angleterre's new CEO and General Manager João Prista von Bonhorst joined the team in the early summer. Now, having experienced a full season in Copenhagen, he reflects on his first impressions of the city and what he looks forward to exploring this Autumn.

"When I arrived in Copenhagen this summer, I expected to discover one of Europe's most admired cities. What I did not expect was how quickly it would begin to feel like home.

Having lived and worked in several countries throughout my career, I have always believed that a destination reveals itself through its people. Copenhagen proved this to be true from day one. I have been warmly welcomed by colleagues, partners, guests and the wider community and for that I am truly grateful.

Coming from Lisbon, I thought I might miss the Atlantic light and southern rhythm. Instead, I have discovered a different kind of beauty: a city that values quality over excess, substance over noise and where hospitality is delivered with a quiet confidence. There is an authenticity here that I find both inspiring and refreshing.

What has impressed me most is the balance that defines Copenhagen. It is a city proud of its history yet constantly looking ahead through creativity, sustainability and innovation. Whether cycling through the streets, exploring its cultural life or simply observing everyday moments, you can feel a city that is always evolving without losing sight of what makes it special.

I am also learning to embrace the Copenhagen way of life: spending more time outdoors, enjoying the changing seasons and appreciating the importance of balance. It is a way of living that feels both modern and remarkably human.

As I begin this new chapter at d’Angleterre, I do so with great optimism. Our hotel, d’Angleterre, holds a unique place in the heart of Copenhagen and has a remarkable history built over generations.

My ambition is to build on these strong foundations, continuing to strengthen d’Angleterre's position as one of the leading luxury hotels in the Nordics while ensuring that we remain deeply connected to the city, its people and its future.

These are values I will carry with me in my new role at d’Angleterre, and I look forward to welcoming many of you during the autumn season and sharing this journey together.

For myself, I look forward to experiencing Copenhagen Health in week 40, Kulturnatten (Culture Night) on 9 October, strolling Kongens Have (The King's Garden), visiting Rosenborg Castle, and of course the many gastronomic highlights in Marchal, including two Four Hands Dinners. "
